Many and varied materials are used for bristles, from horse hair to coir, and more recently, polypropylene has been used as a 'hygiene bristle'.

But by far, Polyester PBT is the most effective bristle for hygiene brushes.

• Polyester PBT is extremely resistant to a wide range of chemicals, from acetone to caustic, hydrochloric acid, sulphuric acid, turpentine and many more.
• Polyester PBT can withstand 134° for autoclaving, without wilting or curling up.
• It has extremely good 'memory', that is it is extremely springy, excellent bend recovery, and does not go dead or flat.
• Polyester PBT is also very wear-resistant, meaning you are getting much longer life from your cleaning tools.
• And it absorbs 100 times less water than nylon!

Which bristle type best suits your needs? 

• • FLAGGED SOFT - Ultra-fine, split-end bristles create a fluffy texture. Excellent for holding chemicals and water in the bristles. Flagged bristles may clog when dust and moisture combine. Note: Not recommended for food contact.
  • EXTRA SOFT - This bristle type is ideal for fine powders; the bristles' density creates a close cover of the surface. Similar to the flagged soft, without the danger of bristle slits breaking off.
  • MEDIUM - Soft yet flexible bristles effectively handle dust and powder while offering greater moisture resistance. Easy to control and still reach crevices.
  • MEDIUM-STIFF - Slightly more rigid but still flexible. Designed for handling bulkier materials like meat scraps, fruit skins, pulp, and grains. Less effective for fine dust pickup.
  • EXTRA STIFF - Built for shifting heavy, lumpy, or wet materials. Ideal for yards, abattoirs, and wineries—durable and highly effective for tough cleaning tasks.
  • COMBINATION FRONT - stiff black bristles at the front, and coloured medium bristles behind - remove stuck pieces while collecting dust and debris behind. 
  • COMBINATION CENTER - Fully coloured bristles; stiff bristles are surrounded by medium/soft bristles, allowing the brush to work in any direction to both shift hard or stuck items on the floor and collect dust and debris.
